EMSEA is governed by a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board. The Board of Directors oversees all the operational activities in EMSEA. Its duties and responsibilities are determined by the government regulations on international non-profit associations (AISBL) and the bylaws of EMSEA. The Advisory Board consists of the legal founders of EMSEA . They provide advice and assistance to the Board of Directors. Board of Directors As from this year, members of EMSEA could apply for a position in the EMSEA Board of Directors. The Board of Directors oversees all the operational activities in EMSEA. The new Board of Directors were elected en masse by the General Assembly, held in Newcastle after the EMSEA Conference.
The Board Member positions have been filled as follows:

- Secretary: Mark Ward
- Treasurer: Ruth Teerlynck
- Communication & Fundraising Officers:
- Russell Arnott
- Sue John
- Martha Papathanassiou
- Membership officer: Eliane Bastos
These positions are for a term of 2 years and are on a voluntary basis.
The duties and responsibilities of the Board members are determined by the bylaws of EMSEA and the government regulations on international non-profit associations (AISBL). As EMSEA encourages innovation, the functions in the Board are not limited to the description in the Bylaws.
